Workshop on How to Write Scientific Articles

We are very pleased to announce the speakers who will be giving the workshop on how to write scientific articles, scheduled to take place on Thursday, December 1st 2016!

These two very charismatic editors will discuss with us the many aspects of scientific writing, such as how to choose the right journal and what happens after a manuscript is submitted to an editor. The workshop will also include a section on how to carry out a quality peer-review.

New this year: a workshop on how to write scientific articles!

The Journée Phare 2016 organizing committee has the great pleasure to announce a new item on the program this year: a workshop on how to write scientific articles!

As you know, Journée Phare seeks to bring together students, research assistants and researchers from academia and industry in order to discuss innovating scientific research in a welcoming and laid-back atmosphere. This year, we also want to provide our participants with pratical tools to help in the writing of scientific articles.

We therefore plan to invite 2 to 3 editors from scientific journals to draw on their years of experience in publication and to share their criteria for what makes a good scientific article.

This workshop is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, on December 1st. It will be followed by our traditional dinner-conference, taking place this year at the Château Bromont Hotel.

Do not pass on this opportunity to develop your skills in a pratical field which concerns us all! You will not want to miss Thursday afternoon!

Elena Verdu

Dr Elena Verdú is a physician-researcher and an associate proffessor in the Department of Health Sciences at McMaster University, situated in Hamilton, Ontario. A gastroenterologist, Dr Verdú explores the role of microbiota in the physiopathology of chronic inflammatory disorders, such as inflammatory bowel disease and coeliac disease. Specifically, she studies how commensal bacteria interact with host tissue in order to prevent disease susceptibility. Her team is also interested in the mechanisms by which probiotic bacteria affect communication within the gut-brain axis. Dr Verdú and her laboratory use a vast array of molecular models, animal models and translational approaches. Elena Verdú also holds the Canada Research Chair in Inflammation, Microbiota and Nutrition.

News – Dr Eric Frost has joined the organizing committee!

The Journée Phare 2016 organizing committee is pleased to announce that Pr Eric Frost has officially joined our committee, in the role of associate professor.

Pr Eric Frost is a professor in the department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Université de Sherbrooke. Author of over a hundred articles in various scientific journals, Dr. Frost is involved in the diagnosis and characterization of medically relevant microorganisms. Among other things, his team has developed a method for detecting genetic polymorphisms based on the fusion temperature of post-PCR probe-amplicon complexes. This technique facilitates the identification and subtyping of microorganisms, and makes it easier to detect antimicrobial resistance.

We are very glad to have his support in the planning of Journée Phare 2016!
